Norma M. Sowers, 86, of Salem, graduated to the next plane of her life on Tuesday, March 26, 2013. She was born in Louisville, KY, a daughter of the late Maurice and Bertha K. Cummins, and had also resided in Richmond prior to locating to the Salem area over 27 years ago. She worked in cosmetic sales for many years at Leggets and Miller & Rhodes Department Stores and most recently was a site manager for Salem Meal on Wheels. Norma was a long time and devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was very active in the Womens Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo W. Sowers, Sr., a sister and a brother. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Lundie and Jane Thomas and her husband Wiley; two sons, Leo W. Sowers, Jr. and his wife Karmel, and Rick Sowers and his wife Cindy; a sister, Rosie Brown; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11AM, Monday April 1, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Rev. Michael J. Herbert will officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Saturday, March 30, 2013 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 314 Turner Rd. Salem, VA 24153.
