Norma Jean Goens

Norma Jean (Sharpe) Goens, 75, of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Friday, September 30, 2022. Born in Wytheville, Virginia on August 29, 1947, to the late Lloyd Oscar and Anna Ruth Cox Sharpe, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Doug Goens, Sr. and daughter, Elaine Mitchell. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ray Goens, Jr. and wife, Peggy, and Tony Goens and wife, Melinda; grandson, Trevor Doyle and wife, Janet; great-grandson, Stone Doyle; as well as her sisters, Phyllis Suthers, of Wytheville, Darlene Burcham, of Tobaccoville, NC, Joyce Trail, of Elliston, Donna Purdue, of Salem, Verna Sharpe, of Salem, Sandra (Woody) Wellons, of Elliston; a brother, Lanny (Debbie) Sharpe, of Hammond, LA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will welcome friends on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral home. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park.
