Nellie Kay Arnold Stump, 88 of Salem, went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with loved ones gone prior, on Monday, February 24, 2025, at her home.

Nellie was born on October 2, 1936, in Roanoke County, Va., the daughter of the late Fred Luther and Ora D. Wertz Arnold. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters; 4 brothers; and 2 grandsons; J.W. Stump and John Barry Hall.

Nellie had a love for numerous things in life. She enjoyed working in her flower garden during spring, as she loved the outdoors. She also enjoyed cooking, and her family was certainly a fan, and she thoroughly enjoyed the art of Calligraphy when the option of going outside wasn't an option. Above all, Nellie's grandchildren were her world. She absolutely loved them to the ends of the earth.

Prior to retiring, Nellie was employed with Roanoke County as a bookkeeper. She also assisted with her husband, Clarence's contracting business, making sure all his numbers were in order. Following her retirement, she remained busy volunteering at Dorsey's Cloths Closet in Salem. On Sundays, you could faithfully find her by Clarence's side at her home church, Fort-Lewis Baptist, in Salem.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her husband of 70 years, Clarence W. Stump; son, Jerry Stump (Teresa); daughter, Teresa S. Hall (John Barry Sr.); sister, Norma Stone; granddaughter, René D. Hatfield; and 3 great-grandchildren, Kylie, Sophia, and Ella.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, in Salem. Funeral services to honor Nellie's life will be conducted directly following, starting at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel. Pastor Leonard Southern will officiate.
