Naomi (Sis) Yost Buchanan, 86, of Salem, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 14, 2015. She was born on August 20, 1928 in Tazewell, Co. to the late William Blair and Bessie Ballard Yost. Mom was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Salem. She retired as a teachers aide with 20 plus years of service from Roanoke County public schools. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and making sure everyone was fed. She was simply a great nurturer! Above all of this, mom will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and friend to all who knew her! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Crockett Thurman Buchanan; brother, Doyle Yost, and adopted daughter, Kimberly Dickerson. Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her son, Bill Buchanan and wife, Linda; daughter, Debbie Thomasson and husband, Terry; adopted grandchildren, Christopher Blankenship and Lindsey Blankenship; foster brother, Jack Young and wife, Leila; special niece, Chris Thompson; special caregiver and friend, Lois Lynch, and numerous other special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services to honor moms life will be conducted on Tuesday, February 18, 2015 at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Friends are welcome to gather for a period of visitation from 12 until 1 p.m. at the Church, in Tazewell, on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to Calvary United Methodist Church; Exterior Door Fund, at 845 Hemlock Rd, Salem, VA 24153.
