Nannie Holt Sharpe, 74, of Roanoke and formerly of Petersburg, joined the Lord in Heaven on Friday, July 12, 2013. She loved children, and had a big hand in raising many. Nannie enjoyed gospel singing and being a part of a quartet, and was known for her homemade biscuits and fried chicken. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lee and Hattie Holt; sisters, Mammie Reynolds, Gay White, and Margaret Robertson; and brothers, Roy Holt, David Holt, and Everett Holt. Her surviving family includes her husband, Samuel T. Sharpe; daughters, Debbie Long and Husband, Eddie, and Melissa Jones; son, Larry Sharpe and wife, Becky; sisters, Roxie Richardson and husband, Robert, Fannie (Lizzy) Stanley, and Patsy Telligman; brother, Emmitt Holt and wife, Mary; brother-in-law, George Robertson; grandchildren, Jessica Long and husband, Byron, Lisa Antillion, Crissy DeHart and husband, Kyle, Jason Sharpe and fiance, Laurie, Bruce Jones, Jr. and Tracy Terry, and Darek Jones and wife, Denise; great-grandchildren, Shannon, Nathaniel, Devin, Deziray, Chelsea, Makaela, Rhianna, and Aidan; and a number of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Theresa Ely. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and especially Philissa and Sara for their care. A period of visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will then be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the funeral homes chapel.
