Nancy Johnston Mitchell

Nancy Johnston Mitchell, 80, of Salem, VA passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010. She was born December 12, 1930 in Salem, VA to the late Charlie Edward and Estelle Porter Johnston. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Buck Johnston and Paul Johnston. Mrs. Johnston was retired as bookkeeper for the Damon Company in Salem and was a member of First Christian Church in Salem. She is survived by her loving husband, Freeman Henry Mitchell; daughters, Susan Crawford, Sherry Layman and husband, Tony, and Diane Stewart and husband, John Randall; step-children, David H. Mitchell and wife, Brenda and Charlotte A. Ericson; sisters, Dorothy Rhodes, Mary Sue Reed, Phyllis Carden and Betty Shelor and husband, Sherman; seven grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sylvia Johnston and Wilma Johnston; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Rev. Dan Netting officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Christian Church, 712 Front Ave., Salem, VA 24153.
