Nancy R. Hurd Beckner, 77, beloved wife, mother, and longtime resident of Salem, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Memory Care facility of Richfield Retirement Community. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward D. and Ethel Hughett Hurd; and by her brother, Edgar Duke Hurd. Nancy was born on July 31, 1935 in Pulaski County where she attended Pulaski High School. On July 15, 1952, she married Harry Lee Beckner in York County, SC. She is survived by her husband, Harry Lee Beckner of Salem; sons, Duane Beckner and wife, Brenda, of Keller, TX, Tim Beckner and wife, Pam, of Chantilly, and Barry Beckner and wife, Teri, of Glendale, AZ; brothers, Nathaniel Bill Hurd and wife, Verlon, and Roger Hurd and wife, Diane, all of Pulaski, Edward Bob Hurd and wife, Carol Gregory, of Blairsville, GA, and Grant Hurd and wife, Judy, of Moneta; and grandchildren, Justin Beckner of Keller, TX, Brittany Lynch and husband, Kevin, and Brandon Beckner, all of Chantilly, and Zachary and Ashley Beckner of Glendale, AZ. Nancy was a bookkeeper by profession and retired from the Virginia State Office of the Church of God. She loved to read and sew, and was an active member of the Salem Church of God. Nancy especially loved her grandchildren. She was dearly loved by all her family and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 beginning at 1 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem where a service celebrating her life will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. Rev. K.B. Arnold and Rev.
