Myrtle Plybon died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at The Haven nursing home in Charlotte, NC where she had resided the past 2 years.
She was born on Jan 17, 1921 in Bassett, Va. to the late Nanny and Will Hancock. She was married 59 years to the late Edward R. Plybon and they had resided in Salem for most of their married life. They had two sons, Wayne, of Waxhaw, NC and Don, of Goose Creek, SC.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by the late Lillian Garst of Salem.
Myrtle lived a full and happy life and she and Ed were always involved in gardening, antiques and Myrtle spent a lot of time flower arranging and later as a horticulture judge at shows. She along with Ed and the boys maintained two farms [Franklin and Henry Counties] for a number of years. In addition, she was employed in Salem as a bookkeeper at Stuart McGuire for numerous years.
Myrtle is survived by her sons and their wives, Wayne and Sue, Don and Teresa; two grandchildren, Stephanie Crow of Roanoke and Scott Plybon and wife, Kimberle of Waxhaw, NC; four great- grandsons, Nathan, Ransom, Alexander and Russell; sisters and brothers, Thelma Plaster and Hershel Hancock of Salem and Edward Hancock and Elsie Wright of Bassett.
Myrtle was a member of Salem Baptist Church since 1947.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 1 p.m.at Salem Baptist Church in Salem, with Pastor Everett Kier officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the services at Salem Baptist Church.
