Minnie Mae Peters

Minnie Mae Peters, 108, of Roanoke, VA passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010. She was born April 27, 1902 in Catawba, VA daughter of the late, John William and Louema Jane Craft Garman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William H. Peters; three sons, Ralph Peters, Bobby Peters and Jimmy Peters; grandson, Richard Burgess; fourteen siblings, Gertrude Damewood, Widdie Crawford, Lucian Garman, Oscar Garman, Leo Garman, Walter Garman, Ballard Garman, John Garman, Carrie Shepherd, Kermit Garman, Claude Garman, Pearl Taylor, Stacil Garman and Leon Garman. Mrs. Peters was a homemaker, member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and she loved to quilt, crochet and bake pies. She is survived by a son, Edgar Peters and wife, Claudine; daughters, Nancy Burgess and husband, Dalton and Louise Parris and husband, Bill; sisters, Elizabeth Eakin and Earl Taylor; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son with Dr. Jeffrey Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
