Mildred Irene Spangler Deaton

Mildred Irene Spangler Deaton, 83, of Roanoke County, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013. She began her working career at Woolworths in downtown Roanoke and later served as a dental assistant with various dentists. Her church home was Central United Methodist Church in Salem, VA, and was a loyal member of both the Home Builders Sunday School and Business Womens Circle. She enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad, and found pleasure in gardening, embroidering, and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Deaton; mother, Edith Spangler Blankenship; father, Henry Spangler; brothers, Ernest and Gene Spangler; and brother-in-law, Dick Jenkins. Her surviving family includes her sister, Joyce Jenkins; brothers, Gilbert Spangler and wife, Phyllis, Glenn Spangler and wife, Donella (Donnie), Richard Spangler and wife, Cheryl, and Donald Spangler; nieces and nephew, Marlene Smith and husband, Larry, Melody Chapman and husband, Bruce, and Harry Miles and wife, Ermma; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 22, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the funeral homes chapel with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. Appreciation is expressed to both Richfield Nursing Home and Good Samaritan Hospice for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Mildreds name to the principal only of the building fund for Central United Methodist Church at 428 College Avenue in Salem, VA 24153.
