Michael Wayne Richardson, 60, of Elliston, finished his journey here on Earth on March 14, 2015, when he died peacefully in his home. Mike was a simple man. He found happiness in the little things of life, such as the view from his porch, the find of an antique item, the sound of a good song, and good times with family and friends. He had a talent for gardening and farming. He took great pride in all he planted, having the ability to make anything grow. He loved his many animals over the years, always having a way with them like no other. His respect for nature and appreciation for the peace and comfort he found only in the country was clear for anyone to see. He was faced with many obstacles for most of his life. He was kicked down often, but never failed to persevere, even in the darkest of times. He was an example of being your own person, and lived life with a free-spirited outlook. He was very proud to say he was one of the old onesa hippy. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Kermit and Ocie Richardson, and Slick and Toots Noell; and sister, Connie Richardson Clayton. His surviving family includes his parents, John and Jean Richardson; daughter, Karla Melton and fianc, David; grandchildren, Makayla Marie, Morgan Lynn, and Hunter James; girlfriend, Shelia Ollis; special aunt, Carol Martin; special friends, Bob and Carolyn Blanchard; siblings, Dennis Richardson and Pat Richardson; niece, Ava Clayton; and many special cousins and extended family members as well as lifelong friends he loved so. A period of visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will then take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Richardson Family Cemetery at 5083 North Fork Road in Ironto with the Rev. Keith E. Graves officiating.
