Michael William Davis, 68, of Union Hall, a distinguished Federal employee in the military intelligence sector, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
He was born in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late James W. Davis and Catherine H. Davis. Michael Davis had been an area resident for over 15 years. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, and went on to earn his Masters degree in Operations Research from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. Following his education, Michael was employed in the military intelligence community designing systems, procedures and contingency plans for the defense of this country. Upon retirement, he followed his dream to become a storyteller. He authored 19 books and short stories in the genres of science fiction and suspense. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting on his farm and fishing on Smith Mountain Lake. He loved the personality of the people of the South and enjoyed the serenity and breathtaking vistas of Southwest Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 48 years, Karen Bluett Davis; two sons, Sean William Davis and wife Deborah, and Craig Steven Davis and wife Shawn; his granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Emma Davis; a brother, Todd Davis and his wife Christine; a sister, Robin Starkey, as well as many extended family members, friends and acquaintances.
A Memorial celebrating Michaels life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Penhook United Methodist Church. The Rev. Judy Short will officiate.
