Melba Ruth Spikes, 92, of Salem and originally of Phenix City, AL, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Richfield Healthcare and Rehab in Salem, VA while being surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Floyd Spikes. Melba was a longtime employee of Bush Jewelry where she worked in the credit department. She later went on to open her own collection agency called Columbus Phenix Collection. She was born in Maxeys, GA on June 17, 1920 to the late Minnie and Fred Adams. Also preceding her in death were her three brothers, Fred Adams, Julian Adams, and Kennan Adams. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Jimmy Spikes and his wife, Amber, with whom she had made her home for the past year in Salem, VA; and grandchildren, Brian Spikes of Columbus, GA, and Shane Spikes and Amanda Spikes, both of Salem, VA. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, AL. The Spikes family is being served by Colonial Funeral Home of Phenix City, 334-298-8728.
