Max G. Bunyan, of Salem, VA, passed away on June 17th, 2021 after a long illness. He was born on July 16th, 1941 in Dodge City, KS to Kenneth Clyde Bunyan and Willa Maxine Clothier Bunyan. She later married Maxs stepfather, William Frank Beadle. All parents are deceased. Max is survived by his spouse, Claudia Bunyan of Salem, VA; his three children, Elisabeth Bass and spouse Matthew of Salem, VA; Joshua Bunyan and spouse Tessa of Joplin, MO; and Peter Bunyan of Kansas City, KS. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Cory Bass and Blake Bass of Salem, VA, and Kenah Bunyan of Joplin, MO. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Sue Bunyan and Jean Renee Bunyan. Max worked as a shift commander at the Dade County, FL, jail in Miami, FL; probation officer in Florida; and was director of Santa Fe Trail Community Corrections, Dodge City, KS. He had been retired since 2005. He graduated from Pepperdine College in Los Angeles, CA, with a degree in psychology. He served in the United States Army in Europe, performing in the Seventh Army Soldiers Chorus. Max was a member of Green Ridge Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA and was, previously, a member of First Assembly of God in Dodge City, KS. Service Details.
