Maurice Lynwood "Lyn" Lavinder Ii

Our loving Husband, Father, Stepfather, Father-In-Law, Grandfather, and Friend, Maurice Lynwood Lyn Lavinder, 74, of Salem, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Lyn was born on January 17, 1947, in Abbington, Virginia. He spent a year attending college at the UVA extension before being drafted into the Airforce where he served for four years during the Vietnam War. He went on to work for N&W, now Norfolk Southern, as a dedicated employee of twenty-eight consecutive years. He loved all UVA sports, especially football. Loved to play golf, fish, and hunt. Lyn never met a stranger and could make anyone laugh, his sense of humor was no less than remarkable, to say the least. He will be missed by so many. We will continue working through his passing as we cherish the many memories, love, laughter, and kindness he gave us all. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Lynwood Lavinder I and Maggie Clementine, as well as several aunts and uncles. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Marcella V. Lavinder Margie; sons, Thomas William Lavinder Bill and wife, Amy, Jeff (Crystal), Brian (Kandi), Mark (Lisa), and Mike (Katie) Williams; grandchildren, Robert Jackson Lavinder, Heather Patsel, Jenny Williams, Haylee Choler, Heidi Williams, as well as Matthew and Joshua Williams; as well as several cousins, other family members, and dear friends. The family will receive friends from 11 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A 2:00 p.m. graveside service with military honors will also be held on Wednesday at Sherwood Memorial Park going in procession from the funeral home. Rev. Hilton Jeffreys will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in his name to a cancer center of your choice. The family would like to give a special thank you to his care team at Blue Ridge Cancer Center, as well as the VA Cancer Center for all their loving care, support, and compassion that was given to Lyn.
