Matthew Guy Melvin, 40, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Matthew was the life of the party, or any gathering, for that matter. He always had a good time, no matter what he was doing and who he was with. No matter the circumstances, he always had to have the last word. He enjoyed camping with his family and loved fishing with his daddy. He was a good cook and liked to share his culinary skills and a good meal with family and friends. A die-hard Steelers fan, he and his "terrible towel" were ready to cheer them on anytime they played. He also liked wrestling. Matthew appreciated good music, loved live music and going to concerts, and was quite a drummer. He was adored by his family and was always ready to play with his nephews, who looked up to him. Above all, he was a Christ-follower who faithfully attended church with his family. To know him was to love him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his parents, Scott and Ann Butcher; grandparents, Rev. Gary and Linda Butcher; sister, Haleigh Ashtin Butcher; nephews, Alex, Maddox and Hunter; uncles, Samuel Craford and his wife, Kim and David Butcher and his wife, Tonya; aunts, Angie Secrist and her husband, Johnathan, Debbie Sylvester and Leslie Ganote and her husband, Traz; extended family, Anthony and Leslie Spencer; special friends, Aubrey, Izzy, Cody and Manny; as well as a host of cousins and friends.
The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at House of Prayer, 2521 Portland Avenue NW, Roanoke, Va., 24017. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary with Rev. Gary L. Butcher and Scott A. Butcher. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
