Matilda Chambers Bean

Matilda Chambers Bean, 88, of Roanoke, passed away and danced into Heaven on Sunday, July 31, 2016. She worked on Capitol Hill with the House of Representatives for 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed being an avid gardener and golfer. She was a good friend to everyone who knew her and was loved by all. Preceding her in death was her husband, Ellis (Sonny) Elwood Bean who passed away in 1979; and brothers, Sam, Doyle, and Bud. Her surviving family includes her children, Greg Bean and wife, Robbie, and Libby Bean Mitchell and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Justin, Jackson, Joe and wife, Diana, Morgan, Ellen, Amanda and husband, David, and Thomas; great-grandchild, Henry; and siblings, Cornelia (Sis), Lee, Jean, and Henry. The family thanks the good people at Brandon Oaks Assisted Living and Good Samaritan Hospice for their support and loving care of Matilda. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 in the chapel at Brandon Oaks Assisted Living. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Brandon Oaks Auxiliary at 3804 Brandon Avenue SW in Roanoke Va. 24018.
