Mary Willie Williams, 92, of Salem, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013.
She was born in Giles County, a daughter of the late Charles H. Williams and Nora Lake Williams and had been an area resident most of her life. Mary was a good hearted and loving friend, sister, wife and mother and was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever the need arose. She was employed at Eaton, Yale and Towne Lock Company for over 33 years prior to retiring. She was a long time member of Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and cooking. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Noah James Williams, who died in 1989, her step-mother, Catherine Virginia Williams, three sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by her son, James Alwood Williams and his wife Barbara; two grandchildren, Mary Dee Williams and James Allen Williams, and three sisters-in-law, Hazel Akers, Freda Williams Tolley and Doris Williams.
The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Richfield Recovery and Care Center, 3 West, for the love, attention and care shown to Mary during her time there.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM, Friday, March 29, 2013 at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Hilton Jeffreys will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM, Thursday at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church Food Pantry, 1601 S. Colorado Street, Salem, Virginia 24153.
