Mary Horton Murphy

Mary Horton Murphy, 76, of Salem, VA passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011. She was born October 17, 1934 in Galax, VA daughter of the late Curtis and Geneva Horton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Murphy; and a brother, Franklin Horton. Mrs. Murphy was a retired Child Care Coordinator for HoneyTree Early Learning Center with 28 years of service. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ramona and Doug Moore and Renee and Jeff Kidd; four grandchildren, Mason Kidd, Sarah Moore, Katie Kidd and Hayden Moore; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Della and Earl Murphy, Emmalene and Kyle Kegley, Peggy and Bayne Ayers and Shirley and Otie Leath; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Friday, August 12, 2011 in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
