Mary Baker Hancock, 99 of Salem, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022. A native of Salem, Virginia, she was the daughter of John Boxton Baker and Ada V. Compton Baker. Mary was a member of the Church of Christ in Salem until the early seventies. She later attended Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She retired from G.E. after 20+ years and had previously worked at the Salem Hosiery Mill, as well as the candy counter at J.J. Newberrys. In her free time, Mary enjoyed square dancing and working with the flowers in her yard. Her strong work ethic evolved from her enjoyment of farming and caring for the cows, chickens, and peacocks. She certainly loved her family and that above everything else will be remembered most. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Hancock; seven of her brothers; John, Clyde, Cliff, Herbert Jack, Howard, Warren, Earl Shelton Jeff; two of her sisters, Kathleen Gladys, and Claudine; daughter-in-law, Twila Saul Turner; and her son-in-law, Richard N. Brammer. Family remaining to cherish her memory include her children; Margaret Ann Turner Brammer, and Glenn K. Turner; grandchildren, Lori L. Brammer, Matthew G. Turner, and Brant G. Turner; Great-grandchild, Taurys A. Turner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Per the wishes of the family, a private graveside will be conducted at East Hill Cemetery, in Salem. In lieu of flowers and food, please consider making donations in Marys memory to either the SPCA of Roanoke or Angels of Assisi. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the 3rd floor staff at Friendship Manor, in Roanoke, for the love and care given to Mary when it was most needed. Also, to the administrative staff that helped Glenn so much. Online condolences may be expressed to the Hancock family by visiting www.johnmoakey.com. Service Details.
