Mary Elizabeth White

Mary (Mid) Elizabeth White, 94, of Salem, VA passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. She was born April 10, 1916 in Catawba, Virginia daughter of the late Charles and Amma Henderson. She is Survived by Daughter, Gail Beach; Son, Cameron White; Grandchildren, Philip Beach, Whitney Worby and Adam Beach; Proud Great-Grandmother of Evan Beach, Cole Beach, Noah Beach, Ethan Worby, Gage Beach, Reese Worby and Sloan Beach. As a young woman she graduated from Salem High School. She was involved with the Junior Women's Club of Salem for many years. She also enjoyed many years of serving as a Girl Scout Troup leader. She began her career teaching kindergarten at the YMCA in Salem before teaching Kindergarten at First United Methodist for 10 years. She then taught preschool at Jerome National School for 10 years. She ended her long career of teaching at ARC in Salem before retiring at the age of 70. She was married to Louis Daley White in 1940 until his death December 31, 1979. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing Bridge, Canasta and gathering with her many dear friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Monday, August 2, 2010 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Rev. Stephen G. Bray officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday afternoon at John M. Oakey and Son. The family wishes to extend special thanks to her many friends who offered their love and support throughout her life.
