Mary Butler Smith

Mary Butler Smith, 85, of Salem, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012. A native and lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Walter M. Butler, Sr. and Trula Bain Butler. She served in the Womens Army Corps as a nurse during WWII and was employed as a commercial underwriter with Eades and Lower Insurance Company prior to retiring. She enjoyed reading, games shows and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albion L. Smith, who died in 2004, and by a son, Timothy W. Smith. She is survived by three sons, Michael A. Smith and his wife Lynn, Patrick D. Smith and his wife Martha, Dennis K. Smith; a daughter, Jeannie Smith Cox and Ray Coffey; a sister, Sarah B. Tuckwiller; 13 grandchildren as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Kevin Segerblom will officiate. Burial will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
