Mary Ann Atkins, 72 of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2011. She was born on July 5, 1939 to the late John Lewis Anderson & Allie Barbour Anderson. Mrs. Atkins was a member of West Salem Baptist Church, and will be remembered most as being one of the best cooks in town, as well as her selfless acts of kindness towards others, as she was always thinking of others above herself. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Anderson; grandson, Shannon Chandler; & son-in-law, Robert Chandler. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul Atkins; sons, Jerry Atkins & wife Karen, and Tony Atkins; Daughters, Suzie Chandler, and Melanie Hodges & husband Mike; sister, Nancy Morris, & husband Billy; grandchildren, Mathew Atkins, Stacy Morris, & husband Josh, Heather Chandler, & William, and Tyler Hodges; great-grandchildren, Quenten, Cody, & Harlee; Nieces, Ruth Anne, Janet Baker, & husband Mike, and Cindy Wolfe, and husband Ronnie; her best friend, Bobbie Conner. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, July 19th in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, with Pastor Nick Shaffer officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday, July 18, 2011 at the funeral home.
