Martha Ruth Palmer

Martha Ruth Palmer, 97, of Salem, VA passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010. She was born August 5, 1913 in Patrick County, VA a daughter of the late Joel and Sally Ann Clark Shephard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sanders Palmer, Sr.; son, Leonard Sanders Palmer, Jr.; daughter, Shelby Jean Palmer; and a number of brother and sisters. Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Salem. She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Izoria Gordon; and a number of other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Rev. Bobby Pickle officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
