Martha Irene Hinchey, 75, of Roanoke, was taken home in the arms of her Lord on Friday, May 4, 2012. She was born on June 18, 1936 in Meadowview, VA, a daughter of the late John William Moore and Mary Josephine Seymore Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Sahr of Roanoke. She was married for 43 years to her childhood sweetheart, Marvin O. Hinchey, until his death in 1999.
Mrs. Hinchey was a long time member of West Salem Baptist Church, where she spent years teaching children about Gods love. She was also a Mary Kay consultant for many years.
She is survived by her brother, Dr. William F. (Dr. Martha) Moore of Rural Retreat, VA; sons, Marvin Terry (Priscilla A.) Hinchey of Culpeper, VA and Ronald W. (Alexis K.) Hinchey of Troutville, VA; daughter, Debra (Calvin) Finlay of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Megan Hinchey, Claire (Andrew) Weber, John Hinchey, Audrey Hinchey, Lauren (Zack) van Driel, and Amber and Nia Finlay; great-grandchildren, Maddox Pichay, Logan Jones and Elina van Driel; a special niece Pam LaPrade; life-long and faithful friend Ruth Gibbs, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
The legacy of Mrs. Hinchey can be seen in the lives of countless little children that she taught in Sunday School over the years, as well as the loving memory she has left behind for her family of her ability to find and believe in the best of others, and her generous and loving heart.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Monday, May 7, 2012 in the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Nick Shaffer will officiate.
