Martella Ann 'Marty' Smith-Silverstein

Martella Ann Smith-Silverstein, 55, of Rocky Mount, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017. A graduate of Cave Spring Hill School, Marty enjoyed music, traveling, the beach, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Irving Joe Smith. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Silverstein; a son, Micah Silverstein; her mother, Florence M. Smith and husband William Hicks; her partner, Robert Shockley; grandson, Aidan Silverstein; a brother, Larry Joe Smith; sister, Florence M. Hammond; numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family members. A graveside service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Chaplain Dave Vanderpool will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Friday at John M. Oakey & Son, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the American Heart Association 3140 Chaparral Dr. # 106 Roanoke, VA 24018.
