Marion E. Pat Rochelle, 88, of Salem, died on Thursday, September 16, 2010. Pat lived on Mill Lane for many years and was known as the Egg Lady as she raised chickens, produced eggs, and distributed them to many area neighborhood grocery stores. She later was known as the Mail Lady to many, having substituted in rural areas for the Salem Post Office and then later carried her own rural route. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed watching and feeding birds, and was devoted to her pet cat. Beginning with the small collection started by her father, Pat carefully cataloged millions of postage stamps in hundreds of albums which filled the shelves of one room in her house. She was a long time member of the local stamp club. Preceding her in death was her mother, Marion B. Rochelle. Her surviving family includes a sister, Margaret R. Garratt of Soquel, California; nephew, Charles Chay Garratt of Warm Springs; and many other family members. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Salem immediately following the morning service. The Very Reverend R. Bradley Laycock, Jr. will officiate. Online condolences to the family may be made at www.johnmoakey.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's. The Rochelle family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral and Cremation Service in Salem, 540-389-5441.
