Marilyn Virginia (Wingo) Myers, of Salem, went to be with Jesus on the morning of November 13, 2014. Praises are ringing out, a child has come home! Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Allan B. and Louise V. Wingo. She is survived by her cherished forever friend, Wes Myers, of Salem. She is also survived by her loving son, Cameron Ashbrook, & his wife Angela and Marilyns three grandchildren, Madison, Mia, and Emma of Evansville, IN; brothers, Richard Wingo of Lake Wylie, SC, and Barry Wingo of Vancouver, B.C.; and loving sister, Dana Schirm and her husband Tim of Fishersville, VA. Marilyn retired after 30 years of service for the city of Roanoke. She was a member of First Baptist Church in downtown Roanoke. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, where she sang for many years. Most of all she loved Jesus and loved doing the Lords work. The family would like to express genuine thanks to all her many friends for all the love they gave to her. They also wish to express sincere appreciation to Birch Gardens Assisted Living in Staunton for their dedicated care. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with a funeral service to honor Marilyns life following at 3 p.m. Interment will be private. Flowers are welcome, but donations may be made in Marilyns honor to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Arrangements by John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, 540-389-5441.
