On July 3, 2011, Marie Eames Wray lost her courageous fight against cancer. Marie was born on April 29, 1935 in Franklin County, Virginia. She grew up in the Doe Run area of Franklin County and later moved to the Roanoke Valley were she was a hairdresser for over 30 years. She was well loved by all her clients in the Grandin Village area of Roanoke. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Florida for a few years before returning to Franklin County to live out the rest of her life.
In addition to her professional role as a hairdresser, Marie was also a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother (also known as MeMe and Grandma Ree to her wonderful grandchildren).
Marie is survived by her husband of 19 years, Brady Wray; son, Greg Clingenpeel of Salem, VA; son, Todd Clingenpeel and wife, Kim of Roanoke, VA; step-daughters, Linda Booth and Husband, Jeff of Roanoke, VA; and Sherry Foutz and husband, Rick of Vinton, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Julie Clingenpeel, Joey Clingenpeel, Bobby Clingenpeel, Laura Clingenpeel, Hailey Booth and granddog Boomer. She also leaves behind her brothers, Lee Eames and wife, Doris, and Billy Eames and his wife Merle, and her sister, Ruth Huston, all of Franklin County, VA.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sara St.Peter and all the staff at the Moneta office of Roanoke Family Medicine. Their love, kindness and compassion during Maries fight against lung cancer will always be remembered.
The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to nurse Pat Spear with Good Samaritan Hospice. The family cannot express in words how much her help, compassion and support during Maries final days meant to Marie, as well as her family. You are an angel that was sent down from Heaven to help us and help Marie prepare to go home with God.
A service to celebrate Maries life will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 7 pm in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, VA. Family will receive friends from 5 pm until service time.
