Marie Goe Meredith, 93, of Salem, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June4, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her children, Martha Meredith Todd and her husband, Allen, Edward Robert Meredith, Sr. and his wife, Linda, Susan Meredith Wolfe and her husband, James, and Leslie Meredith Bittner and her husband, David; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ben C. Goe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Efton Bennett Meredith; her parents, Logan Lee and Eva Lee Goe; sisters, Clastine Ainsworth and Bette Brown; and her brothers, JR Goe, Kenneth Goe, and Paul Goe.
Marie was born on September 15, 1921 in Caldwell County Mo. She grew up in a small farming community. She married the man who became the love of her life, Efton Meredith, on September 28, 1940. In 1941, Marie and Efton packed their worldly processions and traveled east to Baltimore, Md. for Efton to accept a Civil Service position. They lived and raised their children in Baltimore for over 60 years. They were active members of the Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church. They met other young couples with children at the church and continued these close ties throughout their lives. Marie was a homemaker who was involved in many volunteer activities including school, church, and the Linthicum Women's Club. Marie is remembered for her warm and outgoing personality. She never met a stranger and opened her home to a large extended family.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2015 in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem with the Rev. Bobby J. Pickle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association at 3959 Electric Rd in Roanoke, Va. 24018.
