Marie Freeman Dodd

Marie Freeman Dodd died at her home in Salem on October 22, 2011. Marie grew up in Tullahoma, TN, and later lived in Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, and Greensboro, NC, before moving to Salem in 1980. She graduated from Stratford Hall in Danville and attended the University of Alabama and Hanover College. In 1951, Marie married R. Burton Dodd in Rabun County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by Burton in 1990; and by her sister, Emily A. Freeman, in 2008. Maries survivors include her brother, Lester Freeman of Cashiers, NC.; her son, Burton F. Dodd of Atlanta; her three daughters, Mary D. Jacobson, Emily D. Fassett, and Susan D. Bentley, all of Salem; and her seven grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. The family will receive friends at the home following the service.
