Margaret B. Moore, 79, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Richfield Recovery and Care Center.
She was born in Heaton, NC, a daughter of the late Thomas and Mina Smith Bare. Her husband of 49 years, Paul L. Moore preceded her in death in 2008. In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by four brothers, Arron, Claude, Ralph and Buddy Bare, and by two sisters, Edith Tolley and Cleata Jones.
She graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956. Following her love of education, she and her husband relocated from Roanoke to Miami, Florida, where she embarked on a career of teaching first and second grade students in the Dade County School System until her retirement in 1994. Following retirement, they moved back to Salem and enjoyed a quiet life with their beloved Shih Tzus and their daily trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mill Mountain.
She is survived by two sons by marriage, Tyler M. Moore and his wife Pamela, and Roderic L. Moore and his wife Donna; a daughter by marriage, Patricia Whitcomb and her husband John, and by two nieces, Carolyn Oliver and her husband Bart, and Judy White and her husband Roger.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM, Monday, January 14, 2012 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. The Rev. Roy E. Kanode will officiate. Interment at Sherwood Memorial Park will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
