Margaret Evelyn Cole

Margaret Evelyn Cole, of Roanoke and Salem, VA passed away passed away on Monday, May 14, 2012. She was born August 28th, 1927 in Bristol, TN daughter of the late Ike and Evalee Barker. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Dan Cole of Roanoke; daughter, Lyndan C. and Chuck Simpson of Damascus, MD; granddaughters, Charlyn Simpson, Sara Fleming and Susannah Simpson; sons, Art and Judy Cole of Richmond, VA; grandson, Andy Cole; grand Daughter Shannon and Jack Lynch; three Great grandsons, John, James, and Robert of Aurora Ill, Scot and Lee Cole of Salem, VA; granddaughters, Emily Cole and Alison Cole; sister, Francis and Hershel Stevens of Bristol, VA; brother, Lewis and Mary Barker of Kingsport TN; special life long friends- Elene Buckland, Ruth Guthrie and Alicia Keen; and many nieces and nephews Evelyn lived an active life. She was employed by the City of Salem for over twenty years working as the box-office manager of the Salem Civic Center. Evelyn was also involved in the American Business Womens Association which raised many thousands of dollars in scholarships each year to be given to graduating high school seniors. She was also active in her church and serving as Church Council Woman. Evelyn worked in the local community donating her time and effort in such organizations as the Relay for Life, PTA and the most excellent maker of Halloween costumes. Evelyn was best known for her no nonsense approach to everything in life. Her mantra was " All they can say is no". A special thank you is extended to the Brandon Oaks Nursing Home for all of their kindness and excellent care they gave to her. Celebration of Life planned for Saturday, June 2nd at St. Marks Lutheran Church on Franklin Rd in Roanoke. Service is scheduled for 12 noon with a luncheon to follow. Private internment will follow. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Marks Mission Investment Appeal Fund, 1008 Franklin Rd. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, VA is serving the Cole family.
