Margaret Jean Christenbury

Margaret Jean Christenbury, 85, of Salem, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017. Ms. Christenbury was born June 20, 1932 in Charlotte, N.C., a daughter of the late Parks Christenbury and Margaret Vita Christenbury. She was a graduate of Belmont Abbey and worked as the supervisor of the Hematology Department at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for 33 years before retiring in 1995. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Christenbury. Jean is survived by her daughter, Frances Avery and husband, Philip; brother, Donald Christenbury; and sisters, Christine Daughtery and Carole Christenbury; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted Friday, October 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem, 540-389-5441, with Chaplain Dave Vanderpool officiating.
