Mabel Lee Hammond Harrison, 88, of Arvada, CO and formerly Salem, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Mae was born and raised in Saltville, VA, a daughter of the late Mansfield Hammond and Ruby Underwood Hammond. Despite the challenges of the Great Depression and small town life, she moved to Washington, DC and became a successful bank manager at Perpetual Building Association. In her later years she loved traveling abroad, the Garden Club, Red Hat Society and the Daughters of the Confederacy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Mark Harrison, Ph.D.
She is survived by her son, John Gilbert and his wife Anita, with whom she made her home; grandchildren, Chelsea Ronan and her husband Sean, Moriah Gilbert; and a great-granddaughter, Kate Ronan.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3PM, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at East Hill Cemetery in Salem.
