M. Wayne Grizzly Cyrus, 65, of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 19, 2012. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era, and was retired after working 27 years with the VA Medical Center. His hobbies included fishing and hunting, and he loved his family dearly. Preceding him in death were his parents, Willie C. and Catherine A. Cyrus. His surviving family includes his daughters, Ladonna L. Cyrus Brown and Emily Cyrus; granddaughter, Georgia Cyrus; sister, Joyce Chapman and husband, Joe; nieces and nephew, Dawn Allison, Melissa Reese, and Joe Chapman IV; and special friends, Bill Ferguson and Sam Rucker. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 24, 2012 beginning at 2 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel. A memorial service celebrating his life will then begin at 3 p.m., also in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Richmond Fisher House Foundation in care of Mr. Bret Wilkinson at 9201 Arboretum Pkwy Suite 200 in Richmond VA 23236.
