Dannah Lynn Williams Dickenson was born in St. Paul, Va., on Jan. 9, 1933, the middle child of Sam and Vera Dean Williams. As a young teenager Lynn met the love of her life, James Felix Dickenson, while she was working in a soda shop next door to the movie theater in downtown St. Paul. Jim and Lynn later married and shared a life together for 64 years. They raised a family of five children in a household filled with activity, love and great cooking. Just as Lynn was devoted to the care of her children, they were devoted to her care and well-being during her later years.
Lynn returned to her Lord on March 15, 2024, at the age of 91. She is celebrating a joyful reunion with Jim and her parents; her infant daughter, Vera Eugenia; her sister, Sona Williams King; and many beloved friends and relatives.
Remaining to share her memory are Lynn's brother, Joe Williams and wife, Bertha; daughter, Jennifer McLeod and husband, T.; sons, James Dickenson Jr. and wife, Kathie, Greg Dickenson and wife, Connie, Ted Dickenson and wife, Brenda, and Eric Dickenson and wife, Jenni; granddaughters, Autumn Ferris and Emma Dickenson; grandsons, Andrew Dickenson and wife, June, Travis Dickenson and wife, Carrie, Hunter Dickenson and wife, Erin; granddaughter of the heart, Oyu Enkhbold; great-granddaughters, Isabella, Nataleigh and Ruth Dickenson and Ava Miller; great-grandsons, Julian, Caleb and Elliott Dickenson; and many other family and friends who loved Lynn.
Lynn spent much of her life as a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook - her biscuits would almost float - and prepared a hot dinner every day for her family. She enjoyed church suppers and family reunions; nothing made her happier than preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to be shared with children and grandchildren. Lynn loved growing flowers and had lovely flower beds all around her yard. After her children were grown, she enjoyed many happy years working at Obenchain's Greenhouse. Lynn designed and decorated the family's home, where she was grateful to live out her life with the assistance of her faithful caregivers and her children.
Lynn accepted Jesus as a young child and she never wavered. She said nothing outside a life pleasing God ever interested her. She was deeply involved in the ministries of Central United Methodist Church, where she grew lifelong friendships, and was involved in other ministries such as Habitat for Humanity and Gideons Auxiliary. Lynn walked out her faith and spoke of it without hesitation. She lived as an example to her children and many others. She was prayerful especially for her children; it was her heart's desire that they would be strong in their faith and grow in their relationship with Christ.
