Lucille E. Lucy Davis, 86, of Salem, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Mrs. Davis was born January 13, 1932, in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late James Leonard Hinkle and Sarah H. Swain. Lucy was a loving mother of four children. She was also strong-willed and loved the Lord. She worked as a seamstress all her life and enjoyed making arts and crafts as well as gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Walter Davis, Sr.; son, Jack Walter Davis, Jr.; daughter, Linda DeeDee Richardson; brother, James G. Hinkle; and sisters, Louise Pitts and Martha Brooks. Surviving are her daughters Carol Parker and Brenda Goens; brother, Roy Hinkle; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor Lorraine Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society by visiting www.cancer.org.
