Lucile D. Snow, 99, of Salem, passed peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014, surrounded by family. She was the Head Librarian at Roanoke College from 1946 to 1980. Her numerous accomplishments included designing and supervising modernization of the current library from its humble origins in Bittle Memorial Chapel, organizing the famous book brigade, was Chairman of the College & University Section of the Virginia Library Association, and was a Member of the S.E. Library Association and American Library Association. Upon retirement, she supervised the revitalization of the Roanoke College Archives, was active in the Fortnightly Club, served as Board Member of the Salem Historical Society, and attended First Methodist Church for over 50 years. Her wide interests included reading, gardening, and needlework. She was also an avid and tenacious tennis player. Funeral services will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Salem Historical Society at 801 East Main Street in Salem, VA 24153. The Snow family is being served by John M.
