Lottie Louise Brown Huffman, age 88, of Salem, died peacefully at home on Friday, April 06, 2012, surrounded by loved ones, including her husband of 65 years, Howard M. Huffman Jr. Louise was born on August 9, 1923 to the late Truman and Lottie Brown. She retired from General Electric Company in 1984, and was a 26-year breast cancer survivor before she developed bone cancer during the last few months of her life. Louise loved people and loved life. Her strong spirit was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Survivors also include her son, Steve Huffman (Sandy, deceased) of Salem; daughter, Susan Tredway of Overland Park, KS; and daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Mike Jones of Jarratt, VA. She was a loving grandmother to Whitney Huffman, Courtney Huffman, Kelly Corcoran, Andy Jones, Casey Valiente, Travis Jones, Erinleigh Kinyanjui, Rachel Stratton, and Richard Corbett. Louise was also proud of her great-grandchildren, Logan, Ryleigh, Eli, Michael, Mason, Levi, and Tyler. Also left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Birdie (Bob) Johnston and June Griffin; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Louise was preceded in death by two sisters, Mickey Williams and Mary Alice Brown. A special thank you to her loving caregivers, Debbie Repsher and Christine Pilling. The family will receive friends at Fort Lewis Christian Church in Salem on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 1 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11 a.m., also at the church. The Rev. Terry Elkins and the Rev. Bill Murdock will officiate. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Fort Lewis Christian Church Building Fund at 2931 West Main Street in Salem, VA 24153 or to the American Cancer Society at 2840 Electric Road - Suite 106 in Roanoke, VA 24018.
