Lon Louis Hawk, age 68, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011, in Knoxville, Tennessee. After being born in Monmouth , Illinois, he lived in Roanoke, Virginia during his earlier years before moving to Greenfield, Indiana. He retired from Eli Lilly and Company as an animal research technician and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee during the last six years of his life. Lon served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an avid sports memorabilia collector, enjoyed fishing, and adored his Pekingese dogs. Lon was proceeded in death by his father, Charles Hawk, Jr.; mother, Sally Legge; and brother Michael Legge. He is survived by his wife, Carol of 35 years; Stepmother, Mary Lou Hawk; son, Rodney Kingrea and wife, Lisa; daughters Sonia Kingrea, Deborah Campbell, and Angella Lehman; brothers, Johnny Overstreet, Kevin Legge, and Terry Hawk; sisters, Darlene Witt, Peggy Sheese, Debbie Elliott, Patty Tatman, and Cherrie Weldon; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with Rev. David Vanderpool officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 noon to 2 pm. .
