Linda Kay Mullins Stanley, 64, of Salem, VA, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on March 24, 1947, the youngest of 9 children. She spent her childhood years in the mountains of Southwest Virginia in the town of Clintwood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Bernie Stanley. She is joining him in heaven just in time for what would have been their 44th wedding anniversary on August 5, 2011. Also passing on before her was her mother, Georgia Mullins Dishman; brothers, Clarence, Claude, and Paul Mullins; and niece, Mitzi Cunningham. Kay was a member of the Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. She was employed with Drs. George and Richard Tate in Salem, VA for over 30 years and loved every minute of it. She is survived by her beloved children, Stephanie Phillips and husband, Mike, of Salem, VA and Matt Stanley and wife, Danielle, of Salem, VA; precious grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Brandon and Cole Phillips, and Remington, Hunter, Ridge, and Emma Stanley; sisters, Myrtle Childress and husband, Harold, of Clintwood, VA, Mildred Brooks and husband, Calvin, of Clintwood, VA, Beulah Overstreet of Salem, VA, Marie Johnson of Elizabethton, TN, Brenda Dotson and husband, Ron, of Morristown, TN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ned Stanley of Fairfield, CA, Connie and Pat Stanley of Madisonville, TN, Don and Judy Stanley of Alexandria, VA, Clyde and Bonnie Stanley of Bristow, VA, Charlie and Joyce Stanley of Rineyville, KY, Jean and Daniel Phillips of Farmville, VA, Jewell and Ed Leckliter of Goldvein, VA, Elizabeth and Ben Williams of Copper Hill, Brenda Stanley of Nicholasville, KY, Mary Mullins of Colonial Heights, VA, and Marlene Mullins of Clintwood; VA; several special nieces and nephews; and many special friends, especially her Gatlin Girls. The family thanks Dr. Gene Godwin for always being there for her as well as Dr. Gerald Schertz and staff and Dr. William Fintel, Elizabeth Skaggs, NP, and staff. The family would also like to thank all of the special friends at Good Samaritan Hospice that have helped throughout this difficult time. A period of visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11 a.m., also in the chapel. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The Rev. Sue Morris will officiate.
