Linda Sue Hackney

Linda Sue Hackney, 82, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord with her daughters by her side on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

She was born on May 23, 1943, daughter of the late Fonzie and Mary Bartley Coleman. Born within the mountains of Virginia and Kentucky, Linda grew up on a farm where she learned the value of hard work and to be industrious. Her greatest gift to her family was her steadfast, consistent, tender, and unconditional love. Linda enjoyed the simple things in life. Crocheting, gardening; with flowers of most importance, crafting, and collecting antiques, oil lamps, angels, and hummel figurines were among the numerous things she enjoyed during her life. She also loved music; mainly bluegrass, and watching her home and garden shows, but her greatest joy came from spending time and sharing her hobbies with family.  She will always be missed but never forgotten.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her son, Hobert Hackney, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Uriel, Peyton, and Willow; and her siblings, Ollie Mae Coleman Edwards, twins, Goldena and Ledana Coleman, James Coleman, Lath Coleman, Don Coleman, Marge Coleman Johnson, Sidney Jane Coleman Edwards, and Faye Coleman Branham.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Peggy Hackney Perrin, Sandy Hackney Messer, Donna Hackney Goff (David), Elizabeth "Liz" Hackney Bradford (Banks), Carolyn Hackney , and family friend / honorary daughter, Debbie Lee (Ricky); siblings, Lon Coleman, Ernie Lee Coleman (Betty Jean), and Claudette Coleman Edwards; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the nursing and medical staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion given to Linda when it was needed most.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral home, Salem, with Pastor Nester officiating. The family will welcome friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service on Monday.
