Lillis Ira Doyle Lee, 98, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014. She was born on December 6, 1915 in Blount County, Alabama, to the late James Monroe and Loma Vaughn Doyle. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Roosevelt Lee; step mother, Lena Lovelady; three brothers; and four sisters. Lillis met her husband, Ted, in Birmingham, Alabama while he was serving in the military. They were married on February 22, 1946 and lived in New Castle, before moving to Salem in 1953. Lillis spent much of her working life employed at Newberrys department store on Main Street in Salem. She was a proud member of Fort Lewis Christian Church for over 50 years, and loved her church. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking. Family left to cherish her memory include her son, Teddy Lee and wife Sabrina; grandson Chess Lee; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend and neighbor, Missouri Nelson. The family wishes to give special thanks to Fort Lewis Christian Church and to caregivers, Phoebe Joshua and Heather Tompson for all their love and care. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014 in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Terry Elkins and Rev. Bill Murdock officiating.
