Lewis Victor Martin, Sr., 86, of Salem, Va. rose on heavens shore on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. He was born on Wednesday, March 29, 1933, in Oneonta, NY, to the late Jesse Erskine and Edith Julia Burke Martin. Lewis proudly served and retired after 20 years of service to the United States Air Force, as well as, 19 years of service with ADT. He was known for his great love for all people, but especially his love for God. He is a shining example of the love that God gives us through His Son Jesus Christ. He was known by many names; Father Lewis, Barracuda Buddy, Lewie, Dad, Grampa, Popie, Popsy Lopsy, Pop Pop, but most of all, friend. He was always willing to help. He is known for his ability to make you laugh and brighten your day, no matter what you were going through. There was nothing that he couldnt fix. Lewis believed that America was the greatest country on earth. He is preceded in death by a son, Lewis Martin, Jr.; granddaughter, Rebekah Martin; sisters, Eva Mabie, Lena Wells, Loretta Shutters, and Harriet Degnan. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, who was the love of his life, his Sweetie Pie, which he married on Saturday, December 12, 1953, Joyce Utter Martin; he is also survived by his daughters, Diana Thomas (Randall) and Joyce Creed (Randy); and his son, Pastor Douglas Martin (Kathy); grandchildren, Dennis Landry, Holly Landry Scott (Matthew), Bret Martin, Amanda Creed Imamovic (Mirsad); great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Aiyana, Issabelle, Zaccheo, and Ezekiel; daughter-in-law, Jan Martin who was married to Lewis Martin, Jr.; two sisters, Betty Utter and Jesse Gage. He dearly loved and enjoyed all his extended family too numerous to mention. A celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Keaton officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 4:00 pm at the funeral home on Sunday.
