Letcher J.R. Shaver, 69, of Salem, Virginia lost his battle with cancer on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Born on Wednesday, September 2, 1953, to the late Letcher and Josephine Shaver. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, William & Mabel Neighbors. J.R. served his country with the US Army & left this world a military veteran. J.R. enjoyed many hobbies from cooking to music and dancing to raising his beloved Chihuahuas. Anyone who knew him knew, he could bake a mean upside-down cake! His wonderful sense of humor, infectious laugh and spirit will remain forever in our hearts. J.R. is survived by his beloved siblings, Carole Burks, Miranda Minnix, Michael Shaver, Sandra Brant and their families; and by the very special Sherri Hogge. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Virginia, with Dr. Don Woodard officiating.
