Leonard Irvine Janney, of Salem, Va., passed at the age of 80 on Sunday, November 9, 2025, following a several year battle with multiple cancers.
Despite the cancer, Len never really complained and he just kept going. He worked part time up until two weeks before his passing at Catawba Hospital. Leonard was an accountant for the hospital for many years and along the way met so many life-long friends. He was referred to at work as "Two Shoes". Leonard was color blind, and one day found himself at work with two different colored shoes on -- he never lived that down. Leonard was loved by all he encountered as his charisma was hard to overlook. He was a handsome, well dressed, fit, friendly, and witty man, frequently generating laughs and banter with those he talked to.
Leonard was married to beautiful Pamela Janney, who preceded him in death almost two years prior. Pam and Len enjoyed travelling, taking cruises, including a Mediterranean river cruise, spending time at their beach house in Myrtle Beach, and embarking on other getaways. They were thought of as a beautiful couple with a loving, playful relationship.
Leonard is survived by his step-daughter, Kim; sister, Vera; and grandson, Travis.
Travis would like to mention that Leonard was a tremendous role model to him and taught him many lessons throughout his life, the most important being, "You choose your own destiny." Leonard should be remembered not by his death, but by all of the good times -- the jokes, the nicknames, the laughs, the friendships, and the lessons he taught. He will undoubtedly be sorely missed, but he is now in a better place.
Services will be conducted privately.
