Leo Paul Harteis, 87, of Salem, VA passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Leo was born in Johnstown PA to the late Lawrence and Philomena Harteis. Leo proudly served his country as a Marine in WWII. He was once a member of both the Salem Moose Lodge and The Catholic War Veterans. He was the owner and operator of D & L Trucking for many years. Along with his parents, Leo was preceded in death by three wives, Helen, Margaret, and Dorothy, a son Raymond Harteis, two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by five sons, Leo Harteis Jr. of Hot Springs, MT; Tim Harteis and his wife Gayle of Vonore, TN; Dan Harteis of Blairsville, PA; Mark Harteis of Torrence, PA; and Jack Harteis and his wife April of Goodview, VA. Fourteen grandchildren and five great grand children also survive. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday; December 5, 2012 at 1 pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem with Father Kevin Segerblom presiding. In lieu of flowers the family would like for you to consider making a donation to Carilion Hospice at 1615 Franklin Rd. Roanoke VA 24016 or the Alzheimers Association of Roanoke at 3959 Electric Rd.
