Lemuel Lem Bembry Battle, Jr., 72, of Salem, Va., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
He was born in Franklin, Va., on August 7, 1951, the only child of the late Lemuel Bembry (L.B.) Battle, Sr. and Bonnie Holcombe Battle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Denise Ivie Seagle Battle of Salem, Va.; children, Barry G. Battle (Kathryn) of Kernersville, N.C., Anita E. Seagle Kapoor (Gethin) of Salem, Va., and Forrest L. Seagle, IV (Stephanie) of Salem, Va., his precious grandchildren, Daxton Lemuel Kapoor, Griffin Walter Battle, Elizabeth Ogilvie Seagle, and Jenson Andrews Battle; and several cousins.
Lem graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS and MS in Civil Engineering and worked for 44 years at New Millennium (Formerly John Hancock Joists) in Salem. Lem was an avid Virginia Tech football fan and enjoyed going to games with his family and friends. Lem, also affectionately known as Poppy, thoroughly loved and cherished the time with his grandchildren and family. Lem was an active member of North Roanoke Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va. A funeral service will then begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Palmer officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
