Lela DeWeese Poff, of Salem Virginia, went to be with our Lord following a short illness, on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Lela Bits was a lifetime member of the Church of the Brethren. She retired from Richfield Retirement Community. She was a loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she will be truly missed by all who knew her. Lela was preceded in death by her parents, Cabell and Dovie DeWeese. She was the widow of Albert Harvey Poff, Sr. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Winston and Lois DeWeese of NC, and Houston and Jenny DeWeese of Winchester VA; sons and their spouses, Albert Harvey Poff, Jr. and wife, Ouida, of Pulaski, VA, John A. Poff and wife, Sue, of Copper Hill VA, and Michael D. Poff of Salem VA; daughters, Charlotte P. Austin of Pilot VA, and Shelby P. Davis and spouse, Richard Ferris, of Salem VA. Lela is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to both the staff of 2-East at Richfield Recovery and Care Center led by Teresa, Paula, and Courtney as well as the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for their unwavering support to the family during this difficult time. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 19, 2013 from 1-3 pm at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. And a funeral service to celebrate the life of Lela DeWeese Poff will then begin at 3:00 pm with Deacon Houston DeWeese officiating.
